Starting at full throttle virtually

The Hypercar Vision 1789 with a multi-fuel V8 engine and more than 1,000hp was developed for racing at Le Mans in 2023 – and now it’s ready to be driven.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is legendary and one of the monuments of motor sport. The 90th edition of this classic endurance race will take place from 11 to 12 June 2022. Although the French racing car and Hypercar Vision 1789 will not yet be on the track, it is also due to have a starting spot in 2023, with a revolutionary V8 multi-fuel  with over 1,000hp from a cubic capacity of just 3.5 litres.

Thomas Castex, CEO and founder of Vision Automobiles Paris, has built an experienced team around him to make this a reality. For example, Matthieu Vaxiviere, who became the French Formula 4 champion at the age of 17 and has been on the podium in recent years as a professional endurance driver in the GT3 or LMP2 categories. Or Ines Taittinger, who has been racing quickly at a European level since 2009, and Paul-Loup Chatin, the three-time European champion (2013, 2014 and 2019) who has competed in multiple Le Mans editions. His racing expertise and entrepreneurial qualities make Paul-Loup a key element in the development of the Vision 1789.

His twin-turbo V8 weighs just 188 kilos and delivers 950Nm of torque and 1,000hp. What is much more impressive than these performance values is that the powertrain is designed for multi-fuel use and can be operated with conventional petrol, hydrogen or biogas. And as a biogas racer, it naturally roars around the race track in an almost CO2-neutral manner ! The cool thing is you don’t have to wait until the start of Le Mans in 2023 until you can experience the racing thrills and unbelievable power of the biogas racing car for the first time. If you play “Assetto Corsa” at home, you can park the Vision 1789 in your garage and, at least in the game, compete in the first races with it.

Incidentally, there will also be a road version of the biogas racer. Vision Automobiles Paris has already announced a limited edition of 80 of the two-seater hypercars with a price of €2.5 million each. Anyone who still needs to save a little for climate-neutral motor sport and ultimate driving fun can in the meantime do a few laps with the virtual version of the Vision 1789 in the “Assetto Corsa” game (jas, 22 February 2022)
