Conscious decision in favour of biogas

Daniel Kross is one of the shooting stars of German film and also made his international breakthrough with his leading role in “Der Vorleser.” “Stasikomödie” is currently showing in cinemas. On the road, he chooses to travel using a CNG Seat and biogas.

While Seat brand ambassador and film star Daniel Kross uses humour to tackle a serious topic from Germany’s past in his latest feature film “Stasikomödie”, he remains objective when it comes to sustainable mobility and climate protection. His stance on these two important issues is clear, and his current car, a Seat Leon 1.5 TGI powered by biogas, also plays an important role.

In view of climate change, the 31-year-old actor is passionate about driving the spacious estate version of the CNG-powered Seat. “Alternative engines are becoming increasingly important. After all, things can’t go on as they are now,” says Daniel Kross, who made his international breakthrough with his leading role in “The Reader” and even won the coveted Trophée Chopard at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. “We are all currently in a phase of upheaval, which we need to learn how to navigate,” says Kross. Like many others, he asked himself the question: “What is the best engine variant? That’s why I love driving a CNG car right now!” It is clear that the path for electromobility is paved in the medium term. But in times of semiconductor shortages and a network of charging options that can still be expanded, “the biogas-powered Seat is already making a tangible contribution to sustainability and climate protection.”

The multi-award-winning actor is not alone in this assessment. ADAC, Europe’s largest mobility club, also named the Seat Leon 1.5 TGI this year’s winner of the ADAC Ecotest, making it the most environmentally friendly car on the market. The CNG Seat relegated the 111 other new cars – including the battery-powered electric competitors – to the lower ranks. It secured the top spot thanks to its low carbon monoxide, particle and nitrogen oxide emissions and low CO2 emissions resulting from its economical consumption.

Incidentally, Kross does not feel that any compromises have been made in regard to everyday suitability with this sustainable and equally cost-effective type of engine. “I really enjoy the space available in the estate model. It really does offer a lot of room. At first, I thought CNG tanks would come with limitations,” he says, recalling his concerns. But that’s not the case. “The Seat is also great to drive. You don’t notice any difference to a petrol engine when it comes to driving.” Thanks to the 400+ kilometre range, he has also always made it to his destination without any unplanned stops. At most, it’s worth taking a quick look at a route planner when travelling longer distances.

For German actor Daniel Kross, it is therefore clear that he has an important role to play not only in film, but also in his private life: that of a role model – and when playing this role, it is better to make a change for the better than to simply carry on as usual. (pd/jas, 28 June 2022)
